MARTA Discussion - The Georgia Gang

Did Fox 5's weekly local talkshow, The Georgia Gang, really give a shout-out to Preserve Johns Creek?

A key topic for The Georgia Gang on Sunday February 18, 2018 involved the push for additional taxes to fund public transit in Metro Atlanta.  The panel discussed how this has evolved, and how it may be funded - essentially through another Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST).

Shoppers in Fulton County have been paying an extra penny in sales tax to fund MARTA for decades.  An additional sales tax is being proposed that would remain in effect for 40 years.  The most that Johns Creek would realize out of this proposal is the potential to have MARTA buses replace routes that are already served by Gwinnett Transit and GRTA service.  Those buses travel our roads mostly void of passengers.

Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker has already released his statement in opposition to the additional MARTA tax and proposed solutions.  We are in agreement - trading additional tax dollars for the opportunity to change the paint colors on buses going through Johns Creek is clearly a bargain that we need to avoid.
